Pit stop 2 - Feedback

FEEDBACK

Today's assignment is not a new text of your own. Instead, you are giving feedback on another student's text. Feedback is an essential part of becoming a better writer. Writing is a process, in which asking for and receiving feedback is very important.

What, then, is useful feedback? Is it something like 'this was really good', 'that was terrible' or 'I don't know how it could be improved'? No. That's lazy feedback. If you want to give good feedback, you need to read the text carefully and explain why you think something does or doesn't work. That will show the writer that you have actually given thought to how their text could be improved, and they can decide whether they agree and want to make the suggested changes.

  1. The teacher will give you the name of the student whose text you will read.
  2. Go to that student's blog and find Assignment 3 (A modern day fairy tale).
  3. Read the text, and answer the following questions in a comment. (You need to be logged in to be able to do this.)
  4. Consider at least the following things: content, originality, language, spelling, grammar and structure. Write in full sentences!
  5. What is good about the text? (min. three things)
  6. What could be improved? (min. three things)
  7. Finally, write in your comment which fairy tale you think the writer had based their story on.
  8. Later, go back to your own blog and read the comments that were given about your text. If you think you should change something in your own text, do that :)
